While working on the XTE, ASCA, and ROSAT missions during his tenure at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD, Cliff developed a strong interest in data storage and archiving technologies. He then held key roles in developing the IT and multimedia infrastructures of the Electrical and Computer Engineering department of the University of Maryland–College Park. Additionally, he was a crucial player in architecting, procuring, and deploying all major IT infrastructure projects in the department. Cliff has also been involved in the technology development of the Hinman CEO’s E-Dorm program, and he participated in several campus-wide IT projects, most recently the development of a full-campus Active Directory.
Cliff’s strength is his ability as a communicator and motivator. A skilled project manager, he has a well-established reputation as an “idea guy,” but also possesses the rare ability to shift gears and successfully implement those ideas. He is viewed by his peers as a technologist and true collaborator. His belief is that the best results are achieved by using technology where it makes sense, not implementing it for its own sake. He has a reputation for innovation in system architecture, which he credits to his creative background as a visual artist.
Cliff is a devoted husband to his wife, Valerie. He and Valerie are very proud parents of five children. He is also ordained with a passion for ministry. Cliff has done extensive medical relief work in India but his love for travel and people have taken him all over the world. In addition to his technological expertise, Cliff is also an internationally published photographer of more than 25 years.
